Bloc Party

Show: Bloc Party at the Warfield
Headliner: Bloc Party
Openers: The Kills
Location: The Warfield Theater in San Francisco, CA
Date: Thursday, September 22, 2005

Arrived to this show kinda late, due to a particularly heavy workload at the moment. The Kills had already begun to play. As it turned out, the song they were playing as we walked in was the only one I recognized of theirs. They are duo consisting of a girl on vocals an a guy on guitar. Everything else is done with a drum machine.

They put on an okay set, if not inspiring. The girl liked to move around the stage a lot, which is good since they don't have much else happening on stage. Not a band to be avoided, but neither are they to be sought out.

Bloc Party came out pretty promptly at 10pm. They played a very solid enjoyable set. Which is more or less to be expected, since they have a single solid if not world smashing album out. Their initial set went for 50 minutes, filed by the "canned" 15 minutes encore. They did play one real encore, which was actually quite rocking. I thought it was the best part of their show, and quite enjoyed it.

The crowd pretty much sucked though. A lot more smoking than is usual, both tobacco and marijuana (and I'm used to quite a bit of marijuana smoke from bay area shows). Some jerk splashing water all over at random times. People trying to push through to the front at random sporadic intervals. In the end though, these were all minor issues that didn't hurt the show too to much. A good time, and certainly your money's worth.

Cool blog. I believe that the girl in The Kills used to front Florida pop-punk band Discount. correct me if I'm wrong.

Thanks for the good words.

Anonymous, not really sure what you're asking....

Alison Mosshart is the girl from the kills. It does indeed look like she was in Discount. I'll have to check them out.
